Client: Fury Hockey Inc.
Mission: Through the Umeå based company PForce, Struktur Design got the mission to, in collaboration with the Canadian company Fury Hockey, develop a hockey helmet with EVA closed cell foam (the same material as the one in the Crocs shoes) on the inside. The main idea was to decrease the rotating acceleration that occurs when a hockey player’s head hits the ice. Collaborators in the project were Peter Forsberg, Crocs, Boulder USA and Lead Team Development, Redmond USA.
Result: The solution was small unfixed cushions moveable in all directions, regardless of how the helmet as a whole is moving. Thereby, the brain is rotating less. They wanted the look to be sporty and aggressive, thus the name: Gladiator.
